    If using daal then cook 1 cup toovar daal in pressure cooker and keep aside.

    Fill 2 quart pot with the measured water and place on stove on medium heat.

    When water is warm add tamarind paste and stir well so that the paste dissolves. Next add all the necessary ingredients other than optional.

    Allow the contents to boil till the level of water reduces at least by 1/4 . This is to remove the raw tamarind and spice taste. Now if you want to add daal take the cooked daal measure and make a paste of it. Add 1 cup water to the paste and add to the pot. If not using daal, then just add plain water (1 cup) to the pot till the level reaches the original level in the the pot. Stir well and taste. If salt or pepper is less you can add more of the same. If the mixture is too strong for taste add little more water. Turn the stove down to low heat. Add ghee and more curry leaves.

    When the pot contents simmers or rises up off the stove. Prepare seasoning and add to the pot. Your rasam is now ready to be served. Enjoy Molagu jeera rasam !!
